Go inside Madonna and Guy Oseary's exclusive Oscars after-party with photographer JR

The 91st Academy Awards were filled with historic firsts and emotional moments, from Black Panther‘s Ruth E. Carter and Hannah Beachler becoming the first black women to win in their respective categories (Costume Design and Production Design) to Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s stirring performance of their award-winning song “Shallow.”

After the event, the biggest names in Hollywood celebrated at “The Party,” entertainment mogul Guy Oseary and Madonna’s famed after-party, where there is a strict ban on social media posts.

TIME partnered at the event with the artist and photographer JR—a 2018 TIME 100 honoree—for an exclusive look at last night’s winners and partygoers.

JR, who says he nearly got thrown out of the party for taking an illicit photo of Michael Jordan and Pharrell the first time he attended, has set up a photo studio at the gathering to take portraits of guests since 2017.

“Cinema has always had a huge influence on me,” JR said. “Last year I was nominated for an Academy Award, and I still spent most of that night creating new images at the very party I was almost kicked out of.

As the sole photographer at the party, JR’s portraits provide a special look at guests like Academy Award winner Lady Gaga, who posed with Madonna and separately, with her fellow winner Mark Ronson, on Hollywood’s biggest night. Other attendees included Aston Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Ibeyi and Swae Lee.

Stars, snubs and snafus: Everything to know about Madonna’s Oscars bash

After the Oscars, there are the parties: the Governors Ball, where winners grab dinner while their trophies are engraved; the ones hosted by movie studios and Netflix; the Vanity Fair bash (which, The New York Times reported this week, has lost its lustre); and the cool-kids-only affair hosted for a second year by Jay-Z and Beyoncé.

But those looking for old-school debauchery head to the Coldwater Canyon home of Madonna’s manager, Guy Oseary, for an afterparty now in its 12th year.

“You look around, and you’re blinded by fame. It’s the people who aren’t famous who stick out,” said one attendee. “Everyone dances, everyone gets loaded. It’s the one party Leo [DiCaprio] says he actually looks forward to every year.”

Stars who have made the guest list — which is planned and approved by co-host Madonna herself — include Oprah, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Julia Roberts (who wore Converse sneakers to be more comfortable on the dance floor), Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen, Jack Nicholson, Diane von Furstenberg, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and Lady Gaga. While DiCaprio regularly brings his mom as his red-carpet Oscars date, Page Six reported that he switched over to then-girlfriend Toni Garrn for the 2014 party. That same year, Madonna’s ex Sean Penn was spotted making out with new girlfriend Charlize Theron on the dance floor.

Photos are not allowed, and there is a full-on gag order for all guests, party planners, caterers, set builders, etc. Madonna is known to stay on the dance floor for hours (sometimes on her own, sometimes with her kids Lourdes and Rocco). Paul McCartney has jammed with members of the Rolling Stones, and last year Cardi B performed. Penélope Cruz once showed up sporting a mustache, while her husband Javier Bardem wore a feather boa. And the drunkenness is legendary.

British actor Sam Claflin — now said to be in the running to be the next James Bond — told Elle he spilled a glass of wine on Derek Hough and puked on Oseary’s porch.

Jennifer Lawrence has admitted she did the same on his porch in 2013, the year she won for “Silver Linings Playbook.” The next year, Eddie Redmayne continued the tradition after he won for “The Theory of Everything.”

Someone who was there recalled to The Post, “He was dancing in a circle around his Oscar” while Mark Ronson DJ’ed.

“They’ve learned how to deal with it,” revealed one guest who found himself puking as well. “They give you stuff to sober up, and clean it all up very fast.”

Added a second guest, “The night owls love that it doesn’t get going till 2:30 a.m. And by the time you’re really wasted, there’s a major carb breakfast.” In 2017, there were Egg McMuffins from McDonald’s. “I didn’t see Madonna digging in, though,” the second guest said.

It all started when the writer’s strike of 2008 caused the cancellation of the then-top draw Vanity Fair party. Madonna, Oseary and Demi Moore decided to fill the gap with a late, late super-private party.

Gucci has provided swag bags since the first year. In 2012, the label even flew in a Florentine artisan to hand-emboss initials onto signature pieces of Gucci luggage.

Madonna’s always been the one to choose the theme: One year it was Cuban; last year, it was women and power. This year, sources say, the theme is Morocco.

“They take the themes to the nth degree: the staff outfits, the valets, the décor,” said an insider. “No expense is spared.”

In 2010, the official theme was India — but behind the scenes, it was war. Guest DJ Diddy stopped the music and refused to turn it back on until Anderson Cooper started dancing. The CNN anchor immediately complied, but “I don’t think Madonna was too happy with Diddy that night,” said someone who was there. “They got into it. There’s only one grand diva at this party.”

Moore stopped showing up in 2013, the year she split with Ashton Kutcher (who has partnered with Oseary on a number of investments). The legend in Hollywood is that Madonna ghosted Moore that year and invited Kutcher instead. But a source familiar with the situation said that it was Moore who opted to bow out: “Demi was just heartbroken, she’d gone into a tailspin, and [there was] no way she could show her face.”

Some who aren’t invited do successfully sneak in. Jenny McCarthy told Entertainment Weekly that she and her sister managed to talk their way into the party in 2015, but got busted when her sister fell down a flight of stairs. (McCarthy also said they’d had copious amounts of Champagne.) Before he was famous, singer Ed Sheeran went with Rita Ora by pretending to be DJ Calvin Harris (Ora’s then-boyfriend). And power publicist Peggy Siegal wrote in her annual Oscars diary, published at Huffington Post, that she gained entrance by lying on the floor of actress Alicia Vikander’s SUV.

“Once inside, I was terrified of being spotted by Guy Oseary, who ejected me two years earlier for the sin of being a publicist,” she wrote.

In 2017, young actor Lucas Hedges — then a Supporting Actor nominee for “Manchester By the Sea” — almost got thrown out by committing the ultimate no-no and snapping a photo. As he told W, “I’ve never been so scared in my entire life.”

Up until last year, there were no Kardashians. “Madonna didn’t want that element,” says another source. “But last year she felt she couldn’t avoid them anymore.”

Kim made the list, although Adele reportedly skipped the party because she didn’t want to hang out with the reality star.

The saddest shutout, however, goes to actress Lindsay Lohan. Although the “Mean Girls” actress had been a guest in the past, she didn’t make the cut in 2011. Lohan showed up anyway, but security turned her away.

“She was screaming and yelling and cursing and name-dropping, which only made it worse,” said one observer.“

Josh Brolin tried to get her in but the guards weren’t having it. Madonna didn’t want her.”

Madonna on her epic Oscar parties, plus: her secret to success

In an exclusive interview, “Extra” Mario Lopez spoke to singer Madonna at the fashion-forward Barneys New York department store in Beverly Hills as she promoted the newest product in her very own skin care line!

Madonna was back at work after a celebratory weekend. Of her wildly popular Oscars party, she said, “I had so much fun. I always tell everyone the Oscar party is work, but we have to have fun while we work. I have to create a magical environment for people to come into.”

Madonna has managed to kept herself current over several decades, but what’s her secret? She revealed, “I think it's a combination of things. I continue to be an incredibly curious person. Curiosity and being hungry for knowledge and trying new things. Taking risks is important. I’ve never been comfortable, and people have always given me a little bit of a hard time for my entire career, and in a way, that's a good thing.”

During her illustrious career, Madonna has fought to be heard. Praising the #TIMESUP and #MeToo movements, she emphasized, “I feel like I've been fighting for what they've been fighting for — I’ve been doing that my entire career. I feel like all the hard times that I’ve received have been because I'm a female. I'm glad and happy to finally have some solidarity.”

As for why she’s now living in Lisbon, Portugal, Madonna explained, “Soccer. My son wants to be a soccer player. Of all the choices we had for soccer academies, I liked this one best. I’m a soccer mom, number one!”

As Madonna showed off MDNA Skin, she pointed out, “This is not a women's skin care line, it's for everybody."

A portion of the sales from the line’s The Reinvention Cream will be going to Madonna's nonprofit organization, Raising Malawi, which provides Malawian children with one full year of schooling. She tried out the product on Mario, pointing out, "You better use it, because dry-ass skin is not good!”

MDNA Skin can be found exclusively at Barney’s New York.

Madonna hosts star-studded Oscars after-party, guests include Kim Kardashian and Cardi B

It's time for a party! Madonna hosted her highly exclusive Oscars after-party on Sunday, March 4. And per usual, the songstress invited many of Hollywood's hottest stars, including Kim Kardashian and Cardi B.

"Madonna was an amazing host," a source told Us Weekly. "She worked the room all night and chatted with all the guests." The source also noted that the songstress "was dancing up a storm last night! She and Margot Robbie were on the floor at one point. She spent a lot of time with Kim and Cardi B. Madonna and Cardi B are talking about a collaboration on Madonna's upcoming album."

A second source added that Cardi "performed 'Bodak Yellow' at the party. Madonna was in a great mood, bouncing around." Cardi later took to social media to confirm the news, sharing that performing at the event "was the most meaningful performance ever."

Timothee Chalamet, who dated Madonna's daughter Lourdes Leon in 2013, also attended the party. But according to the first insider, the "Call Me by Your Name" actor "kept to himself" throughout the bash. It's unclear if Lourdes attended the party as well.

Madonna also treated her guests to a photo booth fun amid the festivity. The songstress took to her Instagram account to share some pics taken inside the booth, one of which saw her posing with Kim and Cardi. "Gang-Gang," so she captioned the snap which featured them posing while peering through a ripped sheet of white paper.

French artist Jr., whose film "Faces Places" was nominated for Best Documentary Feature, also posted a slew of pictures of the guests at the party. One of the snaps saw Jennifer Lawrence and Chelsea Handler playfully posing together in the photo booth. Another featured Sam Rockwell showing off his Oscar.

Madonna is skipping her own Oscar party

Madonna’s post-Oscars party, with its no-press rule, has been Hollywood’s hottest in recent years. But Page Six has exclusively learned the Material Girl won’t be at her own bash this year, thrown with manager Guy Oseary.

Instead, she’ll be in rehearsals for an upcoming performance on the Brit Awards on Wednesday at London’s O2 arena. But sources close to the singer, 56, promise the LA party “is still happening” and “will be as star-studded and private as ever.”

Past guests have included Jennifer Lawrence (who threw up at last year’s installment in front of Miley Cyrus, and then told Seth Meyers, “If you get invited you’re, like, super important”), Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts and Sean Penn — who reportedly spent last year’s bash making out with Charlize Theron.

A former guest explains, “People go to the Vanity Fair party to be photographed — then they go to Madonna’s to party in private.”

But in cutthroat Hollywood, some sour grapes have surrounded the fête because of its super-tight guest list. So some other parties are gunning to take Madonna’s crown in her absence.

“Madonna’s managed to usurp the Oscars, and she’s not from the film business,” sniffed a movie vet. “Some people are annoyed that her party has skimmed the most famous people from the top.” We hear there are some other hush-hush Hollywood bashes launching this year as alternatives.

Away from the Oscars, Madonna’s readying for the March release of her album, “Rebel Heart.” So, along with playing at the Brit Awards — where she hasn’t performed in 20 years — “Madonna has been committed to performing on ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’ as well as various other promotion for months,” her rep explained of her Oscars absence. Plus, “Any Madonna performance naturally requires a lot of rehearsal — like Tina Turner says, ‘We never do nothin’ nice and easy.’ ” And, “I’m told that there will be as many stars as ever at mega manager [Oseary’s] party.”

Madge’s new single, “Living for Love,” hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Dance Charts, marking her ‎ 44th, tying a record with George Strait.

Sean Penn, Charlize Theron make out at Madonna's Oscars after party

Leave it to Madonna to be a good sport. As per tradition, the pop legend, 55, hosted her annual Oscars after-party on Sunday, March 2 at the L.A. mansion of her manager Guy Oseary, with festivities raging from 10 p.m. to around 6 a.m.. Among the night's many, many A-list guests were her ex-husband Sean Penn and his girlfriend, Charlize Theron.

Fellow Oscar winners Penn, 53, and Theron, 38, were "making out like crazy" and "all over each other" on the dance floor, an observer at the bash tells Us Weekly. "They were the talk of the party -- even Madonna noticed!" Penn and Madonna divorced way back in 1989; she eventually married and divorced Guy Ritchie, while he divorced Robin Wright after 14 years in 2010.

Still, the former couple's four-year union was passionate, and the Material Girl's close pal Debi Mazar recently quipped that Penn remains Madonna's "one true love." Over the years, Penn was supported his ex-wife at concert performances, and she recently joined him in Haiti on a humanitarian project.

Regardless, Penn and Theron's makeout session was on display for all to see -- including attendees Julia Roberts, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Miley Cyrus, Tom Ford, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi, John Travolta and Kelly Preston . . . even Madonna's teenagers!

Past 2 a.m., "Madonna was dancing up a storm with her kids Lourdes and Rocco on the dancefloor," the observer says. "She kept walking around the party trying to get everyone to dance.

Madonna wears 1,000 carats of diamonds to Oscars after party

Madonna is forever living in a material world. The pop star wore 1,000 carats of diamonds at her Oscars after party on Sunday, Mar. 2, Neil Lane announced Monday morning. The 55-year-old singer posted an Instagram photo of herself from Sunday night's festivities, rocking a cherry red gown and matching lipstick, draped in jewels from head-to-toe. "The Oscar goes to Party ## 7!!!!! #revolutionoflove," she wrote in the caption.

The press release announced Madonna wore 1,000 carats of diamonds up the wrist and on her ears, including diamond and platinum bracelets and earrings. In addition to the Neil Lane jewels, the blonde superstar adorned her eye-catching gown with even more jewels. Leaning against a wall in her pic, Madonna flashes the camera an intense gaze as she wears a crystal-coated pendant on her head and diamond-covered cross necklace around her neck.

To put Madonna's 1,000-carat diamonds into proper perspective: Oscar presenter Anne Hathaway, who looked gorgeous at the Dolby Theatre wearing a black silk crepe Gucci column gown, paired her outfit with 100-carats of diamond and platinum bracelets by Neil Lane. The total cost of Hathaway's jewels amounted to a cool $1 million.

Best Supporting Actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence, who stunned in an elaborate rock crystal diamond and platinum necklace, also wore 100-carats of diamonds that were worth $2 million.

The Material Girl once again hosted her annual private Oscars after party at manager Guy Oseary's mansion. The Gucci-sponsored event lures in top celebs annually with the promise of luxury brand goods from the Italian fashion house and plenty of booze.

A source tells Us that security detail was tight at the coveted after party. "There was tons of security and tons of staff checking people in," the insider adds. Paparazzi is not allowed inside with the promise of privacy for famous guests attending the event.

Thanks for nothing! Madonna 'snubs former best friend Demi Moore after inviting her ex Ashton Kutcher to Oscars bash'

It used to be 'their thing'.

But now Madonna has dumped her former party co-host Demi Moore in favour of her friend's younger ex-husband Ashton Kutcher.

It seems Madonna is on team Ashton, after the Jobs actor and not his former wife attended Madonna's annual post-Oscar party.

Ashton was spotted partying the night away at the event held in a private home on Sunday, but Demi was noticeably absent.

Demi had co-hosted the event with the pop star in 2011 - she was unable to do the same in 2012 as the 50-year-old was in rehab post her split with Ashton - but this time the Charlie's Angles star was not even in attendance, let alone hosting.

And, according to Radaronline, this was no accident.

A source told the website: 'Madonna is firmly on side Ashton. She adores him and thinks that out of him and Demi he’s the one with the glittering career.

'Also, Madonna loves having Ashton around as he’s great eye candy, he’s funny and he flirts outrageously with her - in Madonna’s eyes, there’s no competition - when it comes to picking sides Ashton is the obvious winner.'

Held at Madonna's manager Guy Oseary‘s mansion, the celebrity studded crowd was even shocked when Ashton, and not Demi, arrived.

'When Ashton walked in it got the crowd buzzing,' a party-goer said.

'Madonna’s never spoken about the split, but it’s obvious she’s sided with him over Demi.

'It was kind of shocking as Demi has even hosted the party with Madonna in the past, so it’s even more of a mega snub.

'Madonna clearly loves Ashton though, they were dancing together a lot throughout the night and flirting up a storm.'

Also enjoying the night was John Travolta, Bradley Cooper, Daniel Day Lewis, Channing Tatum, Anne Hathaway, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes.

As well as Hollywood heavyweights Jack Nicholson, Salma Hayek, George Clooney and Leonardo Dicaprio.

Ashton finally filed for divorce from Demi in December, over a year since the couple split.

The pair were married six years but in the documents the Two and a Half Men star cited irreconcilable differences as the reason behind the split.

'Madonna weert Demi Moore van Oscar-feestje'

Het was het gesprek van de avond. Niet 'beste vriendin' Demi Moore maar Ashton Kutcher was uitgenodigd op Madonna's fameuze Oscar-feestje. "Ze heeft overduidelijk een kant gekozen", aldus een bron tegen RadarOnline.

Iedereen dacht dat Madonna's goede vriendin Demi Moore op het feest zou verschijnen. "Toen Ashton binnenkwam, stond men wel even te kijken. Madonna heeft nog nooit iets over de aanstaande scheiding gezegd, maar heeft nu blijkbaar Ashton's kant gekozen", zegt de ingewijde.

"Ze vindt hem geweldig. Hij is degene met de glansrijke carrière, hij is leuk om naar te kijken, hij is grappig en hij flirt met haar. Ashton is duidelijk haar favoriet."
