The Library of Congress announced today that Madonna’s iconic 1984 album “Like a Virgin” will be inducted into the National Recording Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” Under the terms of the National Recording Preservation Act of 2000, the Librarian of Congress—with advice from the National Recording Preservation Board—selects 25 titles—albums or singles—each year.
‘With Madonna’s sophomore album, “Like A Virgin” (1984), she took more control of her music, solidified her iconography & proved no one could craft a hit pop song in the 1980s quite like her. Four of its nine songs were top 10 hits & her cultural ascent continued.’
