Pop icon Madonna began her first tour in eight years on Saturday night with a sell-out concert in the Spanish city of Barcelona attended by 20,000 fans.
The gig featured giant screens, an oversized bed and a mechanical bull.
The singer wore costumes designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier, including a kilt in honour of her film director husband Guy Ritchie’s Scottish roots.
Ten dancers and eight musicians joined her on stage.
The set list of the Drowned World Tour mainly features material from Madonna’s current multi-platinum album Music and her previous hit Ray Of Light.
But old song favourites La Isla Bonita and Holiday also receive an airing.
This is Madonna’s first world tour since 1993’s The Girlie Show.
After a second night in Barcelona the Drowned World Tour will move to Milan, Paris, Berlin and London before heading for the States.
Tickets for the six UK dates at Earl’s Court in London in July sold out within hours of going on sale.
Madonna had announced just one show, but after her 4 July date sold out in just 15 minutes, extra concerts were added on 6, 7, 9, 10 and 12 July.
Tickets have been swapping hands on internet auction sites for thousands of pounds.
