Madonna plays by her own rules.
Although she was fashionably late — hitting the stage at 9:45 p.m. Thursday at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul — it seemed as if most fans knew what to expect. Many seats were empty until the house lights dimmed and the Queen of Pop appeared.
“Sorry if I seem a little off tonight St. Paul. I woke up with a fever, the chills, sweat through my sheets.”
Proving once again that Madonna is super-human, because she sang her heart out for two-plus hours.
The production quality of the Rebel Heart Tour is totally different from her dark, 2012 MDNA Tour. This time around, fans are a part of an International fiesta from Asia to Spain, filled with color, cool visuals, and jaw dropping stunts.
“I want to start a revolution, St. Paul. Someone’s got to do it.” Madonna tells fans as she steps out of a cage suspended from the ceiling.
The show opened with Iconic, where Madge and her dancers were dressed as warriors in Asian-inspired costumes. During each of the short costume changes, fans were entertained by incredibly talented backup dancers. The most memorable moment that definitely got the crowd going was when the dancers swayed front to back, side-to-side atop bungee-like poles that looked like they were straight out of a cartoon.
The 57-year-old pulled off a few stunts of her own. During Holy Water she twirls from a metal cross, using a female dancer as a base.
Fans had a chance to hear many of Madonna’s classics like True Blue, Who’s That Girl and a few were even sprinkled in quickly with songs off her newest album.
Our next stop on the international tour, had a Spanish theme. Dressed in a full-length Flamenco dress and a floral hat. Madonna sang crowd favorites, Dress You Up, Lucky Star and La Isla Bonita.
It wasn’t long before clothes were shed, and the provocative entertainer fans have grown to love over the past 30-plus years made her way down the catwalk as a flapper. For all of you in the seats high above the X, yes that female backup dancer was wearing only pearls, a skirt, heels and a headband!
Before the night came to an end, Madonna paid homage to Prince with La Vie En Rose.
Eclectic fans of all ages will have plenty to talk about Friday.
