Madonna put her marital woes behind her and gave a dazzling performance just hours after announcing her divorce from Guy Ritchie.
Fans at the Boston gig said the superstar looked better than ever – maybe even pleased that the split had finally been confirmed after months of tabloid rumours.
The 50-year-old singer seemed to give extra punch to lyrics about being ‘back on the market’ as she revelled to the noise of 20,000 cheering fans.
She was clearly not going to let anything like the end of a seven-year marriage affect her performance as she ploughed on with her Sticky & Sweet world tour.
Madonna did not mention the divorce once – only urging her faithful to vote for Democrat Barack Obama in the upcoming US elections.
“It seemed really cathartic and when she was singing certain songs about being single or being available, she seemed to be more emphatic,” said one fan.
Jen Baston, 34, added: “She is free, she has always been, and she has always done what she wanted.”
Another said: “Sad? No, she was dancing. I think she’s got a thing for Obama. Her and Obama!”
Others said they were delighted she was single again.
“My first question was, ‘she lost the Brit, is she going to lose the accent?'” said a man dressed in a purple wizard’s hat and cape. “She did it for me. I’m here for you, baby.”
Fan Brian Carnahan, 28, agreed: “She is a cougar, if a man can do it then women can do it, too.”
In signature style, Madonna pranced across the stage, dancing and flirting with her hunky singers for nearly two-and-a-half hours.
At one point she yelled: “Are you registered to vote? Come on mother*******, just vote for Obama! No more Sarah Palin!
“You people like to think, here in Boston, so come on, vote!”
It was the last thing she said before she left the stage, and began preparing for the next gig.
